Push Polling

Cool, I just got my first push poll, from the Tarrance Group, "A national Republican polling firm". The meat of the poll was a series of questions about Nick Leibham and Brian Bilbray, asking whether certain positions would make you more or less likely to vote for a candidate - including such unbiased questions as, "Nick Leibham has publicly stated that even as families struggle with higher gas bills, he would not work to reduce gas prices but invest in alternative energy" and "Nick Leibham includes on his campaign literature that he was prosecutor, but fails to mention that after one year he left to become a public defender." A few bad things were thrown in about Bilbray as well, just enough so that it wasn't blatant.

Of course, I am happy that high gas prices will continue to spur investment in alternative energy, which promises to bring lower energy prices in the long run. And I'm fairly ambivalent between prosecutors and defenders. Both can be eithre leeches sucking the life out of the justice system, or stalwart protectors of the public trust.

Drilling

Imagine you're in a Brobdingnag dental office, and the dentist is going at a tooth with a 3-foot drill. That's pretty much what it sounds like at work, where workers are repairing crumbling concrete on our building's facade. The first part of the process is to drill through the weakened concrete to reach the rebar below. The noise reverberates all through the concrete structure of the building, but is worst on the adjacent floors.

Molecule of the Day

I think I have found the nerdiest website ever. Since I am lucky enough to have taken (passed, even!) organic chemistry, some of it makes sense!

Molecule of the Day

I don't recall how I found it; must have had something to do with the post on Acetaldehyde, which I was recently discussing with a friend.
